On Wednesday, CBS 2 Chicago reported that former House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) has agreed to a “tentative” settlement with the man who alleges he paid him off to cover up child sex abuse.
“The man, referred to only as James Doe in filings, brought the breach-of-contract lawsuit in 2016 in a bid to force Hastert to pay the unpaid balance of the hush money, nearly $2 million. Hastert’s lawyers said the 2010 deal was void after Doe spoke about it to others,” said the report. “A Kendall County judge ruled last week that the defendant would be named in court if the case went to trial this month.”
Doe alleges that in the 1970s, Hastert, then a wrestling coach at his high school in Yorkville, Illinois, sexually abused him when he was a student athlete. Doe was one of multiple athletes Hastert was accused of molesting. Hastert has argued his innocence, claiming he was treating Doe for a groin injury, but has admitted in court to “mistreating” and “taking advantage of” athletes.

He only had $500K left to receive so you have to wonder how much he is going to get in the settlement (and even potentially less after legal fees unless Hastert pays them) while being pretty pissed originally to see the payments stop that he felt he had to bring this to court. However, a shrewed move by the Judge though to say his name would be known in a trial to force the settlement if he wanted to keep his anonymity.
Illinois Republicans tend to end up with legal troubles. […] Hastert was a US speaker of the house1999-2007. With men like him in charge, the constitution had enemies. I feel sick thinking about the legislation he brought to the floor for vote concerning sex offenders. Meanwhile he’s paying shut up money to a male victim. And the establishment Repubs can’t figure why some the people call them RINOs! The guy who was getting payments must be outed. Hastert knows no trial equates to IL not having a standard waiver of rights in hand.
This SOB gets what he sowed by being a protector of children, while violating them. I don’t feel any sympathy for Dennis Hypocrite Hastert.
Crap like this really pisses me off. It just proves there’s different laws for the wealthy and the not so well off. If you’re famous or rich, you don’t get charged or go to jail. All you have to do is pay some money that you won’t miss.
So sick of this.
Because he had money this guy was able to live a very predictive life molesting children for years and get away with it.
Good luck
